Complete Georgian lock and original Georgian knobs
We are as sure as we can be that the knobs that came with this lock are original Georgian items (Georgian = 1714 - 1837) . The spindle is obviously hand forged and the ends are asymmetric (one knob only fits one end of the spindle). The lock is a bit harder to date. There are certainly Georgian features, for example the spindle cam is oblong (not square as in more modern locks) and fits the spindle at one end perfectly, also the cam is only secured to one side of the case. The problem comes with the quality of the case. The tolerances are to fine too be hand made and the material is at least twice as thick as is easily workable by hand. There are no hand finishing marks to the case and there are brass slides set in which is very hard to do accurately and economically by hand. The case is heavy and square and will probably last until the end of days. There is no adjustment to the knobs. This set is offered as a complete solution and includes key and keep and a brass bearing plate that supports the spindle on the side of the door opposite the lock. Suitable for doors up to 4.5 cm thick. We offer a free reconfiguration service for door less than 4.5 cm thick. Contact us before or immediately after placing your order or more details.
