bullet  Interesting Spring Loaded Brass Catches

go to the beginning of category: Catches and Latches
Frederick Sage and Co Ltd were shop fitters, at Grays Inn Road from their reconstruction in the 1870s to the destruction of those premises in the Blitz on 17 April 1941. In 1968 they became a subsidiary of British Electric Traction. Well, all very interesting for sure but what does it tell us about the age of these high quality solid brass fittings. Only that they are, probably, nearly 60 years old. Given this they are in remarkable condition, the springs are still springy and everything is as firm as it should be. What are they for? well almost anything really, either handed, with an acute angle to the forend making them suitable for close fitting doors. Possibly flap catches given their apparent origin. These items have been cleaned and lubricated but not polished. We can polish them for a nominal sum if required. Suitable brass fixing screws provided (not shown)
