bullet  Mysterious Bakelite Toggle Switch

back one page
go to the beginning of category: Miscellaneous
We have said it before and we will say it again, we are not electricians so the following is our best guess. This looks like a two way toggle switch if that makes sense. There are two pairs of opposing terminals. Pulling on the arm rotates the central mechanism so the two opposing terminals are connected. To test it, we wired up the switch to a bell, and a low voltage transformer. We pulled the lever, the mechanism rotated and the bell sounded. Then we wired the other pair of terminals, pulled the lever and the bell sounded. We think this is probably suitable for UK mains voltage. A rare piece of Bakelite exotica, probably. In excellent all round condition with no discernible surface marks or scratches to the Bakelite and a good strong spring action.
