bullet  Ancient Antique Iron Knocker, reclaimed

back one page
go to the beginning of category: Door Knockers
Rescued from rusty boot sale oblivion this is knocker is an excellent example of commercially un-viable but non the less intensely satisfying reclamation. The mounting bolt holes had been vandalised to such an extent that they were unusable so the area surrounding the damage was laboriously ground out with a diamond tipped burr and two short lengths of threaded tube brazed into pace. The knocker body was out of wind so some judicious application of heat, a vice and some thick gloves put it right with fine tuning by linisher to complete the work. How much did all this cost? Who knows, more than the item is worth that’s for sure. But that misses the point, what was once a rusty lump of scrap is now a beautiful antique Victorian door knocker ready to give another 100 years service . Most gratifying.
