An enigmatic pair of iron brackets
If we had to describe these brackets in one word, that word would be enigmatic. On the one hand they have diamond registration mark dating the design to 1879 on the other hand their condition is suspiciously good for something purporting to be of some age. If they are reproductions, they are very good ones. During restoration we removed what appeared to be old paint buried deep within the crevices. Also the construction detail of the top bracket plate appears to be consistent with being assembled from 2 separte parts, which further adds to the original item school of thought. Regardless of all of this they are well cast and in excellent overall condition. Look at the pictures and make your own mind up.
